International Affair
Coordinating investigations around the world can be challenging and come with a certain degree of risk. In 2005, we were hired by a DC area attorney to determine if her client’s husband was having an affair. The attorney explained that the couple had been happily married for over twenty years, when suddenly the husband announced to his wife that he was leaving her and that he wanted a divorce. Blindsided by this revelation, the woman ran to her attorney, and we were brought in to help.
Our research on the man revealed that he had been traveling back and forth from DC to Texas on a weekly basis. Once this information was shared with the client, she immediately knew who she thought her husband was involved with. The woman was someone that her husband had hired to do work for his company months prior. Records also indicated that the husband had just purchased a set of airline tickets and made hotel reservations at several oceanfront resorts in Costa Rica.
At the direction of our client, our investigators booked similar flights and made hotel reservations at one of these properties, in hopes of catching the man in the act. Our investigators arrived in San Jose a few days later and then made the long drive through the mountains from the airport to the resort. Several hours later, they arrived at the property and made their way to the front desk. The investigators were anxious though, worried that they may have just traveled a very long distance at the client’s expense, only to discover that the man may have changed his plans. However, minutes later, their concerns were dashed as they spotted the husband and his female companion exiting the hotel elevator and strolling across the lobby together, arm-in-arm. The couple sat down at a table in the nearby lounge and were observed having cocktails while holding each other’s hand.
Photos of the couple exchanging public displays of affection and proof of spending the night together in the same hotel suite were soon delivered to the client’s attorney. The evidence we collected was exactly what she wanted for her client’s divorce settlement negotiations.
